Genre 6: Public Platform Genre
I decided to create a campaign for a public library because I think it captures two main themes of the memoir: reading can set you free and that government agencies are intended to support, not harm, individuals. I think these two themes capture Tara's journey well as it highlights that her education set her free in that she learned the truth and was lo longer living in this false reality that her family created. Furthermore I think this campaign for public libraries suggests that books are a powerful tool in combatting lies and false narratives; a powerful way to gain the truth is through reading and an education. The role of the public library directly contrasts Gene Westover's ideology and anti-government stance. Essentially, this public platform piece shows that education is essential in the development of an individual and that reading is a weapon against lies and falsehood.
